One Day Kobe and Peng Mamba Will Go 1 on 1 in NBA 2K10 on TikTok is a video game hack created by the artist in collaboration with ChatGPT. Using AI tools to modify the files and systems of NBA 2K10 (2009), the artist transforms a basketball game into an endless one-on-one match between the late Kobe Bryant and Peng Mamba, a Chinese influencer known for impersonating him.
Since Kobe’s death in 2020, his image has circulated across Chinese internet culture through fandom, parody, and dark humor. Peng Mamba reproduces Kobe’s appearance, gestures, and playing style in videos on Douyin, China’s counterpart to TikTok. NBA 2K10, which featured Kobe on its cover, was one of Peng Mamba’s favorite childhood games.
By modifying character models, behaviors, and rules, the artist brings Peng Mamba into Kobe’s virtual world. Wearing Kobe’s jersey, Peng Mamba can be controlled by visitors or compete autonomously when no one is playing. The match is programmed never to end, regardless of the score. Competition becomes a perpetual encounter between a deceased athlete and a living imitator whose identity depends on repeating the athlete’s image.
A virtual cameraman modeled after the artist follows Peng Mamba around the court, filming him with a smartphone. The footage appears live on an iPhone in the exhibition and is simultaneously streamed on Douyin. The computer screen presents the playable basketball game, while the phone recreates the vertical perspective of social media livestreaming. The artist enters the game not as a player, but as the person framing its spectacle, connecting interactive play with the mediated spectatorship of influencer culture.
The title rewrites a remark made by filmmaker Spike Lee while promoting NBA 2K10 in 2009: “One day Kobe and I will go 1 on 1 playing NBA 2K10.” Seventeen years later, the artist stages an encounter that can no longer happen in reality.
Rather than creating a new game, the work brings the media culture of 2009 into contact with contemporary AI, internet memes, and influencer economies, questioning how digital figures persist and how the boundaries between originals, imitators, performers, and audiences are redrawn.

作品标题改写自美国导演斯派克·李在2009年宣传《NBA 2K10》时的一句话:“One day Kobe and I will go 1 on 1 playing NBA 2K10.”
